TECHNICAL ASPECTS

3.1 BACKGROUND

PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES

The service station is an innovating concept in Mexico resulting from a research between the trailer centers in Mexico and U.S., and considering the drivers customes.

The project does not intend to change radically the current customes, but to meet the needs of potential clients, this means, the driver's and the transportation comanies'. For this, we made surveys among the drivers and transportation companies in Chihuahua and Monterrey ot get to know specific needs and the project's vision.

The result is a project that satisfies the drivers as well as the companies, respecting their customs and interests.

The project consists of a trailer center as a PETRO which will cover the next needs:

Fuel

The station will have modern diesel dispatch with a high speed filling capacity (120 liters per minute) with three master pumps and two satelite pumps for tank filling at both sides of the trailers. The provided diesel by the satelite pumps is registered by the master pump itself.

The fuel dispatch area is design for the trailer size, having enough sapce to move freely. The natural access to the station is in the way from south to north. For the traffic form north to south there will be a special entranc for easy access and to avoid accidents.

Food

The provided food will be the one the drivers pefer, including the furniture (chairs, tables. etc.). Most of the trailers demanded home-like food instead of fast food. Besides, they want the service to be done at their tables.

Parking

In the section from Jimenez, Chih. to Bermejillo Dgo., in which there are the towns Escalon, Ceballos, Yermo, and Peronal, it is common for drivers to stop and stay overnight. This happpens because of the continuous driving time and safety for the driver; however there are other kind of problems derived from the trailer crowd along the highway meaning a great danger for the people as well as for the drivers, as well as a wearing out of pavement and the lateral areas of the highway. Centro Trailero has been design to offer the safety and required space, for it will have space for 200 trailers in an area with light and vigilance.

Generally, trailer drivers sleep in the trailer's beds, so the hosting services are not urgent in this moment.

COMMUNICATION

One of the services that receive enphasis from the drivers is the phone service. The companies are interested in having a message and monitoring service in the station.

For this the station will have three telephone lines and computers for message register, and fax service.

RESTING AREA

The long jouorneys and drivin time as well as the weather conditions demand the drivers to rest for short periods of time. Now, the only option is stopping the trailer next to the road.

This project contemplates a resting area with A/C, heater, T.V., and coffee, as well as showers and steam rooms to assure an appropriate rest before continuing their trip.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

In order to complement the offered services, there will be other services, such as the convinience store, autoparts shop, laundry, tire fixing shop, electrical and mechanic shops, etc.

The purpose of the service station as a trailer center is to serve the cargo transportation industry to satisfy the specific needs of fuel, food, res, communication, and technical support.

The group of services, the modern and efficient infrastructure as well as the association's philosophy to satisfy the specific needs of the drivers and the companies with quality of service, are the basis to get the economical success of our project.

 3.2 TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY SELECTION

The sevice station in project is designed in a way as to use the top available technology. The most reelevant systems regarding technology are the next:

Fuel Dispenser System

We selected the high speed pumps Gilbarco, with a pump capacity of 120 liters per minute, with a satelite pump system to have access to the tanks located on both sides of the trailer. Taking into consideration a load of 480 liters of diesel it will only take 4 minutes to pour this quantity of fuel.

Storage System

We will have special double bottom tanks that eliminate the possiblity of accidental fuel spill which would cause ecological problems and explosion risks.

There will be two storage tanks with 100 liters capacity each for diesel, and two storage tanks of 60 000 liters each for "magna" and "nova" gasoline.

Security System

Due to the location of the service station in a small town, with vigilance we decided to include a security system for cash management which consists of a pneumatic system for payments and change return, with which cash management will be avoided out of the service station. In the interior side there will be restricted areas with special protection.

Technical Assistance

There will be technical assistance from the suppliers as well as training to solve technical problems that there could be related to the special equipment as pumping equipment and pneumatics. The suppliers will provide technical assistance directly in case of major problems. They will also support the station with the maintenance and equipment either for prevention of for correction depending on the negociations made in the suppliers contract.

Pemex will provide technical support which has already started since the achitectonic project presentation. During the construction and afterwards the station operation, Pemex will supervise the technical and administrative operation to assure the safe and responsible operation. This will also assure the customers' interests.

QUALITY ASSUREMENT PERMANENT PROGRAM

There will be a program of quality assurement that will take care of the products as well as the services. Quality is basic for our project. The drivers' and companies' complaints about the fuel's quality either of dirt, water or another fuel contaminant, etc. Other service stations have lost their clients for these reasons. They also mentioned that in other stations, thourh the services were available, they were given without good attention. For the desired quality of service we require permanent training and motivation.

3.3 PRODUCTIVE ASPECT

OPERATION PROCESS

In case there is no industial process, therefore there is no define production process, there should be a coordination and organization to get a successful function of the station. Among the principal processes to obtain the services we can mention:

  1. Fuel supplement programming between the station and Pemex in Gomez Palacio Dgo.
  2. Food production system, considering the supplement raw material, suppliers selection, processing, service giving, control system, cleaning, among others.
  3. Policies establishment which all customers should follow for their own benefit.
  4. Norms establishment which the employees of the station should follow.

STATION CAPACITY

The maximum capacity is given by the available fuel and by the capacity of simultaneous dispatch of trucks and cars. Next we present the capacity of the station in a summary.

Storage Capacity:

DIESEL 200,000 LITERS

PREMIUN 40,000 LITERS

MAGNA 60,000 LITERS

Fuel Dispatch Capacity

The distribution of diesel pumps with the configuration pump-satelite- pump-satelite-pump, permits:

 diesel

4 dispatch motors on both sides
2 dispatch motors on one side

Gasoline

2 cars with "nova" gasoline
2 cars with "magna" gasoline

Restaurant

The maximun capacity of the restaurant is for 76 persons.

Resting Room

It will have a capacity for 17 persons

Restrooms

men 4 persons
women 4 persons

 Showers

showers 3 persons
steam 3 persons

MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT

The most importan equipment is:

3.4 RAW MATERIALS

The main material that will be sold is :

These materials will be supplied by Pemex-Refinacion in the installations in Gomez Palacio Dgo.

The fuel should be transported by pipes provided by the service station.

Pemex will not provide the transportation service to the station, however, Pemex will pay for the freight according to its fees that will be according to the distance and the kind of fuel. Pemex, besides will provide bones for fuel loss por evaporation. In the next chart we show prices, commissions, and bones for the next fuel. Pemex provides different commissions according to the kind of station to promote the service modernization in all the country. In this case the station has a franchise like 3 stars which is the highest given by Pemex.

3.5 LOCATION

The service station will be found in Escalon, on the free highway Jimenez- Zavalza, Km. 160 +393 meters. Now the highway Jimenez-Zavalza is in construction which will pass at 600 meters aproximately from the service station " Centro Camionero Maba S.A. de C.V."

3.6 ECOLOGICAL EFFECT

CAUSE AND EFFECT

Since there isn't any transforming process of material, there is no pollution in the process or fuel dispatch. The only pollution risk would arise with fuel spilling caused by leakage in the storage process, plumbing and pump areas.

PREVENTION AND CONTROL

In order to avoid all leaking risk, we selected storage tanks with double bottom which cost is much higher than normal tanks, but however they elimitate every spilling risk.

The connections an plumbing are special to avoid leakage. Besides, there will be a supervision in the construction as well as in the installation's operation to assure the safety of the service station.
